6th September 2021
Please find below an update on the current situation with both COVID Boosters and Flu Vaccinations for the coming autumn.
COVID Boosters/3rd Doses
On 2nd September, the NHS alongside the JCVI announced details on the first groups to be offered a COVID Vaccination Booster. The group selected is somewhat smaller than originally expected and only those considered to have a suppressed immune system at the time of their original vaccinations to be called forward at this time. The criteria for this group are fairly complex and the NHS will be supplying us with some tools to help identify our patients who fulfil these criteria. We will be in touch directly with these people over the coming weeks and supplying details on how they can book their booster.
In time further groups will be called forward. We will be contacting each group as approval by the NHS is given. Please do not contact the surgery for an update on likely timescales etc as this information is not known to us.
The surgery has been working on its plans for Flu Vaccination for some weeks and intend to replicate the clinics offered at Thorngrove School last year which were widely noted to be a success. We were all set up to offer over 2000 appointments over the first two weekends of October but have been informed our delivery of the vaccine will be delayed. This is deeply frustrating for all. As you may have seen in the news there is a national issue with the whole country affected.
We will be in touch with eligible patients when we have formal notification of our delivery dates and will be working to get appointments offered as soon as possible after this. We apologise and share in your frustrations over delays.
